Safeguarding training

In April 2021, the National Safeguarding Team issued a new Learning and Development policy.

The new policy reviews the level of training which people (whether paid, voluntary, licensed or Lay) must complete to fulfil the safeguarding requirements for their role.

We, the Diocesan Safeguarding Training Team, are here to help you undertake the training that is required for the role you hold at church.  We want to create and enhance a culture where Safeguarding is an integral part of normal church life.  Therefore, training is available to anyone and everyone from a member of the congregation to a Bishop.  For some church roles, specific training is required, and this is set out in the tables below.

The training is divided into a modular programme, making it more accessible for people with different roles and responsibilities within the church.  All modules have been updated with new content as well as names.

The modules are:

Basic Awareness (previously called C0)

Foundation (previously called C1)

Leadership (previously called C2 & C3)

Senior Leadership (previously called C4)

Specialist modules are also available for certain roles.  These include:

  • Safer Recruitment and People Management
  • Domestic Abuse

An illustration of where these modules fit into the overall training framework is available at the bottom of this page.
