In June 2020 an Archbishops’ Taskforce was put together which was mandated to implement “significant cultural and structural change” on the issues of racial justice within the Church of England.
The Archbishops’ Anti-Racism Taskforce produced a report entitled from Lament to Action, which includes an implementation action timetable.
In our Diocese we have appointed a Racial Justice Officer, the Revd Robert Otule and together we have put together a diocesan racial justice working group. The purpose of the group is to ensure we combat racism in all its forms, promote training and awareness appropriate to different contexts, monitor representation and participation of all groups across the life of the diocese and advocate for those suffering any form of racism.
If you wish to contact Robert please email: racialjusticeofficer@cofesuffolk.org
To support UKME in our churches, the Church of England’s Racial Justice Unit, in conjunction with the ACRJ, CMEAC and AMEN, is encouraging all Global Majority Heritage (GMH) / UK Minority Ethnic (UKME) clergy, ordinands and lay ministers and leaders to register with the GMH/UKME communications network. This network is being developed primarily for the purpose of communications and information sharing among GMH/UKME clergy, ordinands and lay ministers and leaders. Such networks form part of a wider governance, management, and change agenda to help promote equality, diversity, and inclusion. Please sign up here.
