Local congregations came together for the dedication of the new stained glass window at Wetheringsett.
All Saint’s Church Wetheringsett, near Eye in Suffolk has two new beautiful stained glass windows, designed and developed by the award winning stained glass and sculpture artist Helen Whittaker.
Bishop Mike led the dedication service and explained that the windows represented God’s creation with a focus on the sun, earth and sea. The left-hand window depicts land, in particular the countryside around Wetheringsett, and the right-hand window depicts the sea. The imagery connects back to the English geographer and writer, Richard Hakluyt who was Rector of All Saint’s Church in the late 1500s and who travelled the world. The windows offer a beacon of hope, inspiring a sense of wonder for voyaging and discovery. The two windows sit either side of the parish war memorial and the design shines a light on their dedication to service.
The windows were funded following a generous legacy left in the will of Tim Alston, a well-known resident of the parish. The Revd Deborah Nichols said “We are incredibly grateful for the funds received that have enabled this creation to come to life, it is a legacy that will last forever”.
The service coincided with the last service by the Revd Julia Lall, who is leaving her post as Rector at All Saints Church, as she moves to her new post in the Benefice of Rougham, Beyton, Hessett and Rushbrooke.
