National Professional Qualifications (NPQs)

The DfE have now confirmed funding for NPQ Cohort 9, which will begin in November 2025. This will be the only Cohort next academic year (there will be no Spring Cohort in 2026). As in Cohort 8, there is limited funding available. The courses eligible for universal funding for Cohort 9 are NPQH (Headship) and NPQSENCO. These are funded (until places are all filled) for participants in any maintained school or FE college. There is also funding for EHCO for anyone in the first five years. Other courses (NPQEL, NPQSL, NPQLT, NPQLTD, NPQLBC, NPQLPM) are funded for those working in disadvantaged schools.

In conjunction with the Church of England, the St Edmundsbury and Ipswich Diocesan Multi Academy Trust is offering the following Church of England NPQs:

Headship (NPQH)  18 months
Senior Leader (NPQSL) 18 months
SENCO (NPQSENCO 18 months

Why complete your NPQ with the Church of England?

  • Gain a nationally recognised qualification.
  • Experience a great balance of sessions with some online to support your workload and some delivered locally in small groups.
  • Think deeply about leading in a values-led way, whether or not you work in a church school or currently have links to our diocese.
  • Build your local networks and relationships with school leaders near you, who really understand what teaching is like in our area.

All courses are a combination of online webinars, self-study and face-to-face sessions.  They are underpinned by recent research, and allow participants to embed this into their own practice and policies.  The Church of England NPQs also benefit from small group coaching sessions, which further explore participants' learning.

Registration

DfE Registration opens on Tuesday 9 September 2025 but participants can reserve a place on courses by completing an early bird form.

The closing dates for cohort 9:

  • for specialist courses (inc NPQ Flex) is Friday 24 October 2025
  • for leadership courses (including NPQ SENCO) is Wednesday 3 December 2025.
