The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect in the UK on 25 May 2018 and replaced the previous law on data protection (the Data Protection Act 1998) and gives individuals more rights and protection in how their personal data is used by organisations. Parishes must comply with its requirements, just like any other charity or organisation.
Parishes should have appointed a 'Data Compliance Officer' for their PCC, who will act as coordinator to ensure that everyone in the PCC is aware of GDPR and that everyone takes responsibility for ensuring personal data is held securely and processed in compliance with the regulation.
