It was delightful to be back at Synod in-person. Held on 19 March 2022 this was the first in-person Synod in two years. Over 100 members gathered together in Stowmarket to worship together and catch up with each other as we discussed the key themes of Living in Love and Faith, schools and heard updates from schools and Inspiring Ipswich.
All the presentation materials and videos will be available below.
Bishop Martin's Presidential Address
"I am so grateful for the numbers of people across this diocese who have signed up to the scheme (offering a home to Ukrainian refugees), the number of clergy that have signed up and the number of parishes that have offered help. As of last Friday, our donations to the disaster (crisis in the Ukriane) through World Vision has reached a wonderful £29,000". Bishop Martin
Guy McGregor announced as Diocesan Political Engagement Enabler
At Synod in March 2021 we agreed to listen to God and discern his call on how and when to engage in political issues and in seeking God’s Kingdom, to improve our engagement with local issues for the common good. Bishop Martin was delighted to announce that Guy McGregor has been appointed as our volunteer Political Engagement Enabler for the next 12 months. Guy will be encouraging all parishes and benefices to engage with local political and community leaders and processes and offering advice for parishes wishing to engage politically and he will also be identifying common areas and sharing good practice. Living in Love and Faith by The Revd Canon Sharon Potter
The Revd Canon Sharon Potter, our Diocesan Advocate for Living in Love and Faith (LLF) encouraged Synod members to take part in the LLF programme:
Sharon's presentation concluded by asking Synod members to discuss four questions:
1.Have you taken part in a course? If so, how did it help you to learn more about living in love and faith?
2.Are there barriers or misconceptions surrounding LLF that need to be addressed?
3.How might we overcome any barriers or misconceptions to the process of discernment?
4.How might we, as members of Diocesan Synod, encourage more people to take part in a course and respond?
