With sudden tier 4 restrictions being proposed to start on Boxing Day in Suffolk, it looked like wedding celebrations for Tracey and Mark Fisher would need to be postponed. However, thanks to one vicar’s bold initiative and the strength of community spirit, they were able to hold the wedding on Christmas day instead.
The Revd Canon Sharon Potter comments: “It was a wonderful way to end my Christmas Day services, even though myself and the Churchwarden at Felsham had to re-arrange our eating arrangements on the day! David Williams' (Churchwarden at Felsham Church) wife Beverley kindly timed their family meal for 3pm. I had to rush home to the Rectory in Cockfield after my second Christmas communion service at Bradfield St George in order to let my dogs out before getting back on the road to Felsham in order to get the ceremony started at 1pm. David had to ensure that all was set up for the wedding in the Church. Luckily I had not started writing the registers and so didn't have to make any corrections to the entries!
Sharon continues “The Church is here to serve its people, and luckily I have a good team who understood how devastating it would have been had we not been able to conduct the wedding as the couple had a common licence to marry which only lasts 3 months. Mark and Tracey are a lovely couple, and although they have been in Felsham a short while they have already begun to get involved in Felsham Church. I am so pleased that I was able to conduct their wedding, and to give them such a special day, one that they will certainly never forget and that the Lord has blessed.”
