Key Groups in Ipswich deanery

Inspiring Ipswich is an exciting, seven-year initiative, ending its project phase in December 2025.

It is overseen by the Bishops of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich, directed by the Archdeacon of Ipswich, Rhiannon King and governed by a Project Board.

The project is supported by a staff team (see below).

Inspiring Ipswich also works closely with Together for Ipswich, a collaboration of churches of all denominations working for the good of the town.

Archdeacon Rhiannon, Director of Inspiring Ipswich 

Rhiannon is responsible for the direction of the project and also holds the role of Archdeacon of Ipswich.

Karen Macfadyen, Project Manager

With ambitious targets and big goals, Karen ensures that the project is on track and that the work streams are all flowing in the same direction.

Alicia Holmes, Lead Pioneer Developer

Alicia is our Lead Pioneer Developer. Along with Bob, she supports new worshipping communities, offers leadership training and facilitates networking.

Liz has recently joined the project as Rhiannon's assistant.

Helen Smith, Administrator and Prayer Facilitator

Helen's work covers everything from events management, communication and administration to ensuring prayer remains at the heart of the project.

Bob Hamilton, Pioneer Developer

Bob is a Pioneer Developer who leads Safe Harbour. Along with Alicia, he supports new worshipping communities, offers leadership training and facilitates networking.

Simon Barrington, Project Consultant

Simon accompanies the project as a consultant and sits on the Inspiring Ipswich Project Board. He is involved in coaching and advising across all aspects of the project.

Alan and Catherine provide prayerful support and encouragement to the Deanery, the area in and around Ipswich, where this project is.

Peter Forty, Estates Assistant

Peter works with several of our estate churches to help them tackle the large building issues that are preventing mission from being as effective as possible. He has already made progress at St Peter’s and St Helen’s Church and is beginning to work at Holy Trinity.

Sue Bridges, Pinewood Pioneer

Sue works with Alicia at St Peter’s Church and in the Pinewood area. They are already working with Gusford Primary school and Sue is planning to start a youth group in the area.

Ali Hobson, Holy Trinity Pioneer

Ali works with Bob, mainly at Holy Trinity, but also at St Helen’s. They are planning to revitalise Holy Trinity by starting two new worshipping communities suitable for people with learning disabilities and special needs and those who support them.
