Appointments and retirements 2020

The Bishops' Office has recently announced the following appointments and retirements:

 

The Revd Maria Antoinette (Manette) Crossman, moves from her post as Vicar, Great Barton and Thurston, to her new post as Priest In Charge, Higham, Holton St Mary, Raydon and Stratford St Mary.

The Revd Chris Griffiths has submitted resignation for his post as Rector, Horringer. Chris will be taking up a new post as Team Vicar, Christ Church East Sheen in the Mortlake with East Sheen Team Ministry, in the diocese of Southwark. He resigned his role as Assistant Rural Dean, Thingoe Deanery on 26 May 2020.

The Revd Marion Joyce Walker, Permission to officiate, Ipswich Deanery, will be SSM Associate Priest, Rushmere Benefice. She will be licensed by The Archdeacon of Ipswich on 13 December 2020.

The Revd Simon Hill, Rector, The Suffolk Heights Benefice and Assistant Rural Dean, Clare Deanery, in addition to his current posts is now Acting Rural Dean, Clare Deanery. This took effect on 1 June 2020.

The Revd Chris Childs, in addition to his pending post as Team Vicar, the Forest Heath Team Ministry, will also be Assistant Rural Dean, Mildenhall Deanery. This will take effect on 11 February 2021.

The Revd David Alan Butcher moves from his post as Assistant Curate, The Forest Heath Team Ministry, to his new post as Team Vicar, The Forest Heath Team Ministry.

The Revd Mark Jason Woodrow moves from his post as Priest in Charge, Stoke by Nayland with Leavenheath and Polstead and Nayland with Wissington, and Rural Dean of Hadleigh, to his new post as Rector, Stour Valley.

The Revd Christopher Childs moves from his post as Rector, Combs and Finborough and Assistant Rural Dean, Gipping Valley Deanery, to his new post as Team Vicar, The Forest Heath Team Ministry.

The Revd Caroline Butcher, SSM Assistant Curate of the Benefice of Mildenhall will be SSM Assistant Curate of The Forest Heath Team Ministry. This is due to a new pastoral measure which took effect on 1 November 2020.

The Revd Susan Leathley, Assistant Curate (known as Parish Priest), the Benefice of Mildenhall, will be Team Vicar, at The Forest Heath Team Ministry. This change of title is due to a new pastoral measure which took effect on 1 November 2020.

The Revd Jutta Brueck has submitted resignation for her post as: Priest in Charge, The Benefice of Ipswich St Thomas, and Assistant Rural Dean of the Ipswich Deanery. Date of last service: 5 January 2021. Jutta will be taking up a new post as: WITH Community Dean at All Hallows, Ditchingham, in the Diocese of Norwich.

The Revd Toby Tate, Priest in Charge, The Benefice of Martlesham with Brightwell will be Rector of The Benefice of Martlesham and Brightwell due to lifting of the benefice suspension on 18 September 2020. Toby will be licenced by the Ven Jeanette Gosney, Archdeacon of Suffolk on 18 November 2020.

The Revd Canon Sandra Barton moves from her post as Assistant Curate House for Duty (known as Parish Priest) Freckenham, West Row, Barton Mills and Worlington.To retire with effect from 5 November 2020.

The Revd Canon Ian Andrew Wilson, Priest in Charge, The Benefice of Nacton and Levington with Bucklesham and Foxhall with Kirton and Falkenham, and the Benefice of Waldringfield with Hemley and Newbourne, will be Rector of The Orwell and Deben Rural Benefice due to the Mission and Pastoral Measure on 30 July 2020. Ian will be licenced by the Ven Jeanette Gosney, Archdeacon of Suffolk on 22 November 2020.

Mrs Leanne Hannah Wale as SSM Licensed Lay Worker, Lightwave Hub Church Leader and co-leader of the Lightwave Community, licensed to the Benefice of Carlford. She will be Licensed by The Rt Revd Dr Mike Harrison, Bishop of Dunwich on 10 November 2020.

The Revd Carl Nicholas Melville, Assistant Rural Dean of the Bosmere Deanery, will be Assistant Rural Dean of The Gipping Valley Deanery. This is due to a Bishop’s pastoral order. The deanery merge and name change will take effect on 1 October 2020. This is in addition to his current role as Rector of the Benefice of Bacton with Wyverstone, Cotton and Old Newton, and Wickham Skeith.

The Revd Mark Charles Stewart Cresswell, moves from his post as SSM Assistant Curate, Carlford, to his new post as SSM Interim Priest in Charge, The Benefice of Carlford and the Parish of Culpho.

The Revd Eleanor Mary Goodison, moves from her post as SSM Associate Priest, Athelington, Denham, Horham, Hoxne, Redlingfield, Syleham & Wingfield, to her new post as SSM Interim Priest in Charge, Athelington, Denham, Horham, Hoxne, Redlingfield, Syleham & Wingfield.

The Revd Andrew Steward Dotchin, Priest in Charge of the Benefice of Felixstowe St John the Baptist with St Edmund, will be Vicar of the Benefice of Felixstowe St John the Baptist with St Edmund. This title change is due to the lifting of the benefice suspension on 11 September 2020.

The Revd Herbert Michael Mike Birt moves from his post as Interim 0.5 Priest in Charge, Monks Eleigh with Chelsworth & Brent Eleigh with Milden and Kettlebaston, to his new post as 0.5 Priest in Charge, Monks Eleigh with Chelsworth & Brent Eleigh with Milden and Kettlebaston.

The Revd Alistair Andrew Metcalfe moves from his post as Assistant Curate, St Andrew's Bebington (and Townfield), Diocese of Chester, to his new post as Vicar, St Augustine of Hippo.

The Revd Christopher Paul Tyler has submitted resignation to relinquish his post as Assistant Curate, of The Benefice of Lavenham with Preston, date of last service: 15 November 2020

The Revd Benjamin John Edwards moves from his post as Assistant Curate, Beccles St Michael and St Luke, to his new post as Assistant Curate, St Edmundsbury Cathedral.

The Reverend Ian Barclay Byrne retires from his post as Rector, The Benefice of Bungay, with effect from 6 September 2020.

The Revd Andrew Williams moves from his post as Assistant Curate, Woodbridge St John and Bredfield, to his new post as Assistant Curate, Bury St Edmunds, St Mary with St Peter District Church.

The Revd Charlotte Alice Cook moves from her post as Assistant Curate, Carlford (to be known as Rural Resourcing Church, Leader and Co-leader of the Lightwave Community), to her new post as Half Time Priest in Charge, Westerfield and Tuddenham St Martin with Witnesham.

The Revd Lynda Anne Sebbage moves from her post as Interim 0.5 Priest in Charge, Barrow, to her new post as 0.5 Priest in Charge, Barrow.

The Revd Rosemary Ives Stewart Rycraft retires from her post as Priest in Charge, Dalham, Gazeley, Higham, Kentford and Moulton, with effect from 31 August 2020

The Ven James Scott Ridge, in addition to his current role as a PTO Chaplain General and Archdeacon to Prisons, Sudbury Deanery, he will be newly appointed as a SSM Associate Priest, at Boxford, Edwardstone, Groton, Little Waldingfield and Newton, Box River Benefice.

The Revd Maximillian Luke Darryl Drinkwater moves from his post as Assistant Curate, Newmarket St Mary with Exning St Agnes  to his new post as Priest in Charge, Haverhill with Withersfield.  He will be licensed on 14 September by Bishop Mike.

The Revd Nigel John Prior moves from his post as Vicar of Mayfield and Five Ashes, Diocese of Chichester, to his new post as Rector, St Mary's Woodbridge & Priest in Charge, Great Bealings.

The Revd Timothy Harold Rogers moves from his post as Assistant Curate, Benefice of Redenhall and Scole, Norwich Diocese, to his new post as Rector, Yoxmere Benefice.

The Revd Leslie Siu as Assistant Rural Dean, Loes Deanery. This is in addition to his current role as Vicar, The Benefice of Wickham Market with Pettistree. This appointment will take effect on 1 July 2020.

The Revd Canon Graham Hedger as Rural Dean, Loes Deanery. This is in addition to his current role as Priest in Charge of the Benefice of Orebeck.  This appointment will take effect on 1 July 2020.  Graham succeeds The Revd Canon Mark Sanders who finishes as Rural Dean of Loes on 30 June 2020 and retires on 31 July 2020.  

The Revd Nicolas Jon Stuchfield as SSM Assistant Curate to be known as Assistant Priest, Saxmundham with Kelsale cum Carlton.  To be licensed on 19 May 2020 by the Archdeacon of Suffolk.

The Revd Dr Stephen Frederick Brian retires with effect from 31 August 2020.

The Revd Canon Mark Newby Haworth moves from his post as House for Duty Priest, Dorchester Team Ministry, Diocese of  Oxford, to House for Duty Priest, Exning St Martin and Landswade.

The Revd Lynda Anne Sebbage moves from her post as Assistant Curate SSM, Stour Valley, to Interim 0.5 Priest in Charge, Barrow.

The Revd Rufin Emmanuel moves from his post as Chaplain, Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, Diocese of Southwark, to Lead Chaplain, West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, Diocese of St Edmundsury and Ipswich.

The Ven Annette Cooper, Archdeacon Emeritus (Chelmsford Diocese) with Permission to Officiate in the dioceses of Chelmsford, and St Edmundsbury and Ipswich, will also be Acting Rural Dean, Woodbridge Deanery from 1 June 2020.

The Revd Christopher Griffith has withdrawn resignation to relinquish his post as Rector of The Benefice of Horringer. He will therefore not be taking up a new post in the London Diocese as circulated on 21 January 2020. He will continue as Rector of The Benefice of Horringer.

The Revd Matt Selman has submitted resignation to relinquish his post as Assistant Curate of The Benefice of Lark Valley and North Bury. His last service will be Sunday 31 May 2020. Matt will be taking up a new post as Team Vicar, The Sid Valley Mission Community in the Diocese of Exeter. He will be licensed on 24 June 2020 at St Giles and St Nicholas Church, Sidmouth by The Bishop of Exeter.

The Revd Laura Selman has submitted resignation to relinquish her post as Assistant Curate of The Benefice of Lark Valley and North Bury. Her last service will be Sunday 31 May 2020. Laura will be taking up a new post as Team Vicar, The Sid Valley Mission Community in the Diocese of Exeter. She will be licensed on 24 June 2020 at St Giles and St Nicholas Church, Sidmouth by The Bishop of Exeter.

The Revd Tricia Box has submitted resignation to relinquish her post as Associate Priest of The Benefice of Bures with Assington and Little Cornard. Her last date of service will be 30 April 2020.

The Ven Duncan Jamie Green, PTO, Lavenham Deanery, will be Acting Rural Dean of Thingoe. This appointment takes effect on 1 April 2020.

The Revd Paul Gary Hambling, Rector of The Benefice of Melton and Ufford, will in addition to his current role be Assistant Rural Dean of Woodbridge. This appointment took effect on Monday 24 February 2020.

The Revd Richard Finch, Priest in Charge of The Benefice of Leiston, will in addition to his current role be Assistant Rural Dean of Saxmundham. This appointment took effect on Monday 24 February 2020.

The Revd Dr Richard John Needle has submitted resignation to relinquish his post as SSM Assistant Priest of the Benefice of East Bergholt and Brantham. This takes effect on 28 February 2020. Richard leaves the Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich to move to Somerset.

The Revd Elke Brunhilde Emma Cattermole, Priest in Charge of the benefice of Bildeston with Wattisham and Lindsey, Whatfield with Semer, Nedging & Naughton, will be Rector of the benefice of Bildeston with Wattisham and Lindsey, Whatfield with Semer, Nedging & Naughton. This title change is due to the lifting of the benefice suspension on 11 February 2020. She will be instituted and inducted as Rector of this benefice by The Ven Dr David Jenkins, Archdeacon of Sudbury, on a date to be confirmed.

The Revd Caroline Morwenna Hallett, Priest in Charge of the Benefice of Acton with Great Waldingfield, will be Rector of the benefice of Acton with Great Waldingfield. This title change is due to the lifting of the benefice suspension on 11 February 2020. She will be instituted and inducted as Rector of this benefice by The Ven Dr David Jenkins, Archdeacon of Sudbury, on a date to be confirmed.

The Revd Dr Simon Hill as Assistant Rural Dean of Clare. This is in addition to his current role as Rector, Suffolk Heights benefice. This appointment took effect on 7 February.

The Revd Linda Grace Peall moves from her position as Lead Chaplain, Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Diocese of Chelmsford, to Head of Chaplaincy, East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust, Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich.

The Revd Carl Nicholas Melville moves from his position as Rector, at Claydon Benefice, to Rector at Bacton with Wyverstone, Cotton and Old Newton and Wickham Skeith.

The Revd Evelyn Ruth Bell moves from PTO at Thingoe Deanery, to her new position as part time Rector at Bansfield.

The Revd Michael Womack will be ending his employment as Rector, at Hoxne Benefice. To retire with effect from 8 April.

The Revd Julian Fennell will be ending his employment as Team Vicar, at the South West Ipswich Team Ministry. To retire with effect from 31 July 2020.

The Revd Penelope Heather Brinkley in addition to her current role as Assistant Curate (SSM), Felixstowe St John the Baptist with St Edmund, and her role as Assistant Spiritual Director of Cursillo, Penny will be The Diocesan Chaplain to the Deaf. She will be licensed by Bishop Mike on 9 February 2020.

The Revd Canon (Clare) Hilary Clare Sanders will be ending her employment as Rector at the Carlford Benefice. To retire with effect from 31 May 2020.

The Revd Nick Alexander moves from his post as Associate Vicar at Bury St Edmunds St Mary with St Peter, to St Peter and St Paul’s, Moulton, Northamptonshire. Date of last service: 8 March 2020.

The Revd Canon Kevan Sean McCormack will be ending his employment as Rector of St Mary's Woodbridge. To retire with effect from 13 February 2020.
