A church in Ipswich has formed a new children’s choir as part of a county-wide music project.
The BlesSINGs Children's Choir at All Hallows Church in Landseer Road has performed at its first service after receiving funding from the diocese’s Music, Mission and Young People (MMYP) project.
The Revd Emma Haggar, vicar at All Hallows, said she was proud of how well the young singers performed.
“It’s still early days but the choir performed brilliantly at their first service,” she said.“They really enjoyed themselves and were so engaged with the music and the words. We hosted a well-attended ‘spring sing workshop’ earlier in the year so children could come along and try it, which was very successful. We have children from three or four separate primary schools in the choir, so it gives them the chance to meet new friends and enjoy making music together. And who knows where it could lead to – Ed Sheeran started singing with his village church choir so there’s quite a track record here in Suffolk.”
The MMYP project is funded through the Diocese and seeks to connect with young people through music – building their confidence, supporting their mental wellbeing and introducing them to church and faith.
Andrew Gosden, project manager at the MMYP project said: “The initiative was set up to encourage more young people to visit out church communities and to reach young Christians through music and choirs.The new children’s choir at All Hallows is a great example of what we are looking to achieve. The children get an introduction to church life, to meet new people and to learn about God and faith. The Revd Haggar is doing some exceptional work at All Hallows and congratulations to the young choir on their first service.”
The church is hosting summer singing workshops on Friday 14 August and Friday 21 August 21 from 2.30pm-4.00pm.
